Welcome to the first posting for our new blog, helping to celebrate Dare to Care Week April 15-22, 2007 for the Monterey Bay area!
Our picture here is of students planting seedlings at Chartwell School. Wonder what grows there now? Do you care? How about sending us a new photo?
Dare to Care Day was begun several years ago by the Community of Caring, a program begun to help teens and youth and to honor council woman Ruth Vreeland of Monterey, CA.
This year we are going to celebrate how much we care for our beautiful home and each other all together, for one week.
You are invited to post a comment here on this blog (you will first have to register for free when you want to make a comment below any posting or you can email you pledge before the event and your story after the event to: sammon@ci.monterey.ca.us
Need some ideas for participating in
Dare to Care Week? How about....
• Storytelling…share stories on acts of caring/acts of kindness – create a “storybook” to be shared with others (and send copies to Community of Caring to post on website!)
• Schools work with a business or community group for a collaborative project
• Students create bookmarks reflecting caring actions to share with public libraries, senior centers, books stores
• Hand out “I Dared to Care cards” for positive actions – redeemable for a goodie like a hug or a cookie or a walk on the beach
• Write a letter and send it to a soldier in Iraq,
• “ Pay it Forward” pass one good deed to another to pass to another…etc...
• Have a “pennies” drive with proceeds going to fund a needed project.
• Send a flyer home to families with ideas for Dare to Care Day.
• Make a Dare to Care Day or Week for a buddy at school – matching older & younger students for a class activity.
• Count the caring actions you or your colleagues do everyday but never stop to notice!
• Have students weed a flower bed during lunch, recess or P.E
• Write notes of appreciation to other staff members.
Can we top 3,000 participants in 2007?
Join us! Have fun caring with us all, together.
